Hotel rates in Las Vegas
HOTEL RATES in Las Vegas
No matter where you stay in Vegas hotel prices are among the country’s best, generally 10-20 percent below those of other resort and convention cities. Rates are usually substantially lower on weekdays, so check the prices for a Monday through Thursday arrival.
Weekend rates begin with a Friday arrival, and many hotels will not even book a room for a Saturday arrival. Rooms at downtown hotels are typically 25-50 percent lower than their Strip counterparts.
Rates are often higher on holiday weekends and during major conventions. But you can find bargain room prices during the period from Thanksgiving to Christmas (except for 10 days in early December when the National Finals
Rodeo is in town), and the days preceeding and following New Year. The city is busiest during March, when rates increase considerably. It is a good idea to make reservations as far in advance as possible.
Ask for a special rate if you are staying for a few days.
Hidden Extras
Room rates in Las Vegas hotels are usually quoted exclusive of sales and a county-wide tax, which adds about 11 percent to the price of the room. The rates are usually for double occupancy, exclusive of children or additional persons. Most hotels charge about $25-50 for extra persons in the room, though children under the age of 12 can usually stay free. Some hotels charge a fixed amount for local phone calls, and long distance calls are often quite expensive – up to $10 a minute and more. Thus it might be prudent to bring your cell phone with you.
Campgrounds And RV Parks
Camping in state and national parks is allowed in spaces designated for that use. While most of these parks follow a first come, first served policy, other campgrounds require reservations, so be sure to book in advance. Check with the National Forest Service for camping information at Mount Charleston, Lake Mead, and Red Rock Canyon. Facilities at campgrounds can range from extremely basic to those with running water and limited RV hook-ups.
Recreational vehicles have many ports of call in the city.
These include hotels, such as Sam’s Town RV Park, KOA at Circus Circus, and Main Street Station RV Park. Most of the parks offer competitive rates – many cost less than $20 a day – full hook-ups, laundry facilities, flush toilets, showers, convenience store, and even a pool. They also accept pets. Advance reservations are recommended.
